The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department is home to 230 parks and facilities located on more than 21,000 acres of parkland throughout Mecklenburg County. The History Department at UNC Charlotte is home to an active Graduate History Association (GHA), which is open to any graduate student with an interest in history. The GHA conducts student development projects such as the annual graduate history forum (now in its 34th year) as well as community outreach projects. The GHA at Charlotte is proud to participate in the effort to revitalize and save Cedar Grove Cemetery in Charlotte.

Johnson C. Smith University is a private historically black university in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. A private liberal arts university with proud HBCU traditions and a future aimed at diversity. The college enrolls approximately 1,600 highly talented and motivated students from various backgrounds.
